Q:/ How often should I tune my piano?
A/ Minimum twice a year is usually recommended by most manufacturers. I would say at least once if it is not used frequently. Older larger pianos tend to hold up much better than new, smaller sized pianos. Keeping the humidity as consistent as possible throughout the year will greatly reduce the need for tuning
Q:/ Why is 'how much do you charge?' not the best question to ask when searching for a piano tuner?
A German piano manufacturer claims it takes 6 hours to properly tune a piano. All piano tuners may not agree, however anyone who claims to have left a customers piano 'perfectly' in tune is either not honest or not very precise. Obviously it would not be cost-effective for us to spend 6 hours on a single tuning however the unfortunate reality is that most tuners spend no more than 1/2 an hour to 45 minutes. Most customers may be satisfied with the improvement that is done during this time, others may not be able to even distinguish a difference, however I would urge anyone not knowledgeable to seek a tuner through a referral. Shopping the Yellow Pages for the cheapest tuner will more likely than not lead to an unsatisfactory result. Therefore if you found me through some internet or yellow page ad then FOR HEAVEN'S SAKE CLOSE THIS SITE IMMEDIATELY AND START ASKING AROUND FOR A GOOD TUNER!
